Yo Ho! Yo Ho!

We are sailing on an ocean of chocolate cake!

The other day, I accomplished something that I will do again…and again…and again. I made Pioneer Woman’s chocolate sheet cake! A glorious concoction of butter, sugar, cocoa powder, flour, and a heapin’ dose of love that takes as little as twenty minutes in the oven to bake up into a cake that makes you sigh and almost cry.

You see that little divot out of the corner? That’s my fault…there just happened to be a spoon in my hand and it fell into the corner and extracted a piece. JUST HAPPENED, there was no way out of it.

Rest in peace, chocolate sheet cake piece…you shall be missed…

In my stomach.

I never lick the spoon. I don’t, eggs freak me out…but I did here and I SWEAR, a newly-formed Clara angel is flying around in heaven and I’m just a walking corpse. This stuff IS SO FLIPPING GOOD.

The frosting was awesome too…so awesome…SO awesome. This woman is a sheer genius…(but then again, everyone who knows of her blog knows that…) However, I couldn’t take an entire sheet cake, so I took Bakerella’s approach and made them into what are quite possibly the best cake balls in the history of the world. I wish I could take credit for them, I really do. But I can’t. So I won’t. So I’ll just show pictures and give links. That’s the most justice I can do.

Excuse me, I have to go sob in joy.

In other words. Love. In a pan.

In other words. Why didn’t I think of this…

Happy Baking!

  1. there’s blogging telepathy… i woke up a couple hours ago thinking i had to make this cake… HAD TO…

then i went out and it’s snowing, again. so there’s gonna be a chocolate storm in my kitchen, it is necessary. lol.

i really need to try to make the cake balls, i’m terrified of screwing them up… do you use plain melted chocolate or do you buy the candy melts?

    • I have used the candy melts, melted chocolate, and chocolate bark for the cake balls, and I think that the most success came from the chocolate bark. You should be able to find it with the chocolate chips and stuff in your baking isle, they have white chocolate versions and regular chocolate. It melts better, the candy melts are find, but I have to spoon them over the ball in other to get a bit more even coverage whereas in the chocolate bark its a bit easier. Regular chocolate is fine too, but you have to use a LOT of paramount crystals ( http://www.amazon.com/Paramount-Crystals/dp/B0008DI8OY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=gourmet-food&qid=1266588501&sr=8-1 ) or vegetable oil.

Chocolate bark should be fine, candy melts are as well. They taste relatively the same, so its a matter of what you want :]. I used candy melts in these and colored them with some Wilton gel coloring.

  2. oh wow! thanks for the info! i’ll try with the bark and see!

    thanks!

  3. YUM! I love professional they look!!! Good job!
